The Association of Indians in America (AIA), the oldest Indian organization in America, has taken upon themselves the task of combating AIDS in India through its unit, Project India.
Project India, a relief effort for economically deprived people in India, has recently joined forces with Gujarat AIDS Awareness and Prevention Unit (GAP) for this purpose.
...5 million people are infected with HIV
in India and it is projected that by 2010,
this number will rise to 50 million...

Project India and GAP believe in the time honored saying that an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure and hence, Project India is launching the program for HIV/AIDS, "AIDS in India: Prevention through Education." Our aim is to bring educational materials to children and masses on HIV/AIDS and information on its prevention.
...an ounce of prevention
is better than a pound of cure...
Project India is launching the program for HIV/AIDS prevention program by hosting a fund-raising dinner on Sunday, April 25, 2004 in New York. The gala dinner will also present a Lifetime Achievement Award to Mr. Gulzar, a famous writer, poet and filmmaker, who is also known for his contributions to different charitable causes.
