FORT LAUDERDALE: March 06, 2002; His Excellency Lalit Mansingh the ambassador of India to the United States will be in Broward County this week for a three-day visit during which he will brief members of the Indian-American community and news editors and various local officials on Indo-American cooperation in the ongoing global War on Terrorism.

Mr. Mansingh is visiting South Florida at the invitation of the Association of Indians in America (AIA), the nation's oldest and largest Indian community organization. The ambassador will speak Friday evening at a 7:30 pm reception in his honor being held at the Fort Lauderdale Airport Hilton, Griffin Road, Dania. (Tel. (954) 920-3300).

The Ambassador is expected to discuss the role that India, the world's largest democracy, plays in the international campaign against terrorism. And he will touch on the current situation in India and dealing with an outbreak of communal violence in the nation's northwestern state of Gujarat, an area still recovering from a major earthquake early last year.
