PRESS RELEASE

Indian Americans Offer Their Prayers
( AIA Day of National Prayer September 14, 2001)

Miami, FL September 14, 2001, A nationwide drive has been launched by The Association of Indians in America (AIA) to request participation of the Indian American community in offering prayers in their own way at places of worship of their own choice to help a fast recovery of our nation from the terrorist attack. AIA membership comprises of Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Jains, Christians, Budhists, Jews and Parsis.

"It is exceedingly important that all our places of worship must rally the community and join President Bush in praying for peace for the souls of those who suffered untimely dead", said Dr. Piyush Agrawal, President of The Association of Indians in America. "We urge you to assemble your community at your place of worship on Friday, September 14th and join in the candlelight vigil at 7:00 PM."

AIA urges each and every one of you to: Step out of your home, stop your car, or step out of your place of worship and light a candle. Also, display the American Flag.

"Together we must send a loud and clear message that reverberates all across the world that Americans are strong and united against terrorism," said Gopal Khanna, Chairman of AIA's nationwide campaign to mobilize the community. "Please pass this to each and everyone on your e-mail list. We need to reach all our people across the United States quickly."

AIA is urging the community religious leaders to take the lead in bringing the community together and guide the people to: donate blood, and contribute generously to their charity of choice.

AIA has created a special fund: "I Love America Fund", to help families of those who have perished/injured as a result of the attack.

"Indian Americans have done exceptionally well in all walks of life, be it as taxi drivers, nurses, doctors, scientists, educators, bankers, technologists, entrepreneurs, and corporate leaders," said Khanna. "Time has come when we should give back generously and act to fulfill our civic responsibility."

Contributions to the "I Love America Fund" can be made by writing checks payable to:
