THE ASSOCIATION OF INDIANS IN AMERICA
A Non-Profit Organization of Asian Indians: Founded in 1967
PRESS RELEASE
Indian Americans Rally Behind President Bush
Miami, FL September 13, 2001, The Association of Indians in America (AIA) has launched a nationwide drive to enlist the participation of the Indian American community in the effort currently underway to recover from the terrorist attack on our nation.
"AIA condemns in no uncertain terms dastardly acts committed by the terrorists," said Dr. Piyush Agrawal, National President of AIA. "Americans of Indian Origin are acutely aware of the impact terrorist actions can have on the daily lives of innocent people. These heinous crimes committed on our
soil remind us that we can never take our freedom and democracy for granted."
While President Bush, the Congress and various Federal Agencies are busy with their work of brining the culprits to justice, The Association of Indians in America urges all Indian Americans to do their part by helping our country to cope up with the rescue and treatment of the afflicted.
Mr. Gopal Khanna, Vice President of the National Executive Committee, and Chairman of AIA's nationwide support efforts said, "We urge each and everyone in the community to come forth and rally around President Bush to send a strong message to the terrorists and their sponsor nations that Americans of all faiths and background stand united and ready to defend our country."
AIA urges all Indian Americans to join us by doing one or more of the
following:
- Go with your family to the local Temple or religious center and offer prayers tomorrow September 14, 2001 as the nation comes together on the Day of Prayer proclaimed by the President.
- Assemble community members and go and donate blood to hospitals and blood drive centers in your locality.
- Reach out and provide assistance to those who may have lost their loved ones in the tragedy.
- Proudly display American flag in front of your home and office.
- Donate generously by contributing to AIA's special "I Love America Fund" created for the families of those who have perished/injured as a result of the attack.
"Indian Americans have done exceptionally well in all walks of life, be it as taxi drivers, nurses, doctors, scientists, educators, bankers, technologists, entrepreneurs, and corporate leaders," said Khanna. "Time has come when we should give back generously and contribute to fulfill our civic responsibility."
Contributions to the "I Love America Fund" can be made by writing checks payable to:
