ONGOING GOALS & OBJECTIVES
(Year 2000 & Beyond)

  1. Involvement In Public Policy Process:
    • Involve Scholars in the fields of Economics, Education, Health Care, Politics, Foreign Policy, Management, Trade, and Commerce.
    • Commission Position Papers on timely issues and publish them to induce formulation of appropriate American Policy.
    • Facilitate connecting Scholars with key (may be all) legislation in Congress and State Legislatures. (Drafting of Bills, Hearings, Initiatives/Reacting)
    • Create a Network of Intellectuals.
    • Connect with THINK TANKS and facilitate entry of our people at various levels: professional, social etc.
    • Use all of the above to create a Center for Leadership and Public Policy.
  2. Promote American Leadership:
    • Make targeted efforts in developing leadership among the interested persons of the next generation.
    • Leadership fields would cover Politics, Business/Corporations, Professional Services including positions listed in the Plum Book, and Civic/Community and Non-Profit Organizations.
    • The leadership roles should be available at both levels: participatory and supportive.
    • Most of the onus of the Supportive Leadership would fall on the first generation who are highly successful in their chosen careers and carry some clout.
    • Address the issue of Glass-Ceiling.
    • A network of Support Leaders will facilitate placement of Participatory Leaders.
  3. Awaken The Community:
    • Conduct drives for Voter Registration and for becoming Citizens.
    • Participate in the Community Activities at all levels.
    • Educate and encourage the community to actively participate in the political process by joining party of their choice and play an active role in the party politics.
    • Fund Raising is very important but is not enough to achieve desired goals. We must be able to influence the inner workings of the political and social environment (Caucuses). Getting elected as delegates to local, state, national conventions or members to the local and state civic bodies and community organizations. (East Africa is an example of apathy)
    • Create a Support System to encourage these activities. (Teach Give and Take)
    • Improve Communication, especially among the stakeholders, through e-mail, newsletter(s), & Tele-banks.
    • Conduct a nationwide drive, through Press Releases, to encourage the Community to participate in Election 2000 (Refer to all the above activities)
  4. For Strong Diverse America, Facilitate The Political & Social Assimilation Process (While Maintaining The Cultural Identity):
    • Review School & College Text Books, especially in the field of Social Sciences, to rectify erroneous and biased information about Asian Indians.
    • Improve media perception of Asian Indians. Furthermore, develop a strong and positive relationship with the media (Print, Radio, TV & Electronic)
    • Counter blatant biased and discriminatory cases by writings and legal actions.
    • Create an appropriate database of Indian Americans.
  5. Develop A Funding Mechanism:
    • Reach Out and Touch Our Own, Contact:
